The University of Guelph Library has appointed the following liaison librarians: Carol Perry and Robin Sakowski

We wish the following librarians all the best in their new positions:

• Gohar Ashoughian will become the Associate University Librarian, Collection Services and Assessment at the University of Regina in October.
• Lorna Rourke will become the Librarian at St. Jerome’s University in Waterloo in December 2007.
• Justin Harrison left Guelph in June for a position at the University of Victoria as a subject librarian for political science and social work.
• Melanie Boyd completed a contract at Guelph in July and is now working at the University of Calgary as a subject librarian for English language and literature.

Debbie Chaves, is our new library liaison for many of Laurier’s science departments. Debbie, who has previously worked at the University of Guelph Library, has a PhD in biophysics from the University of Guelph and a Masters in Library and Information Science from the University of Western Ontario. She has taught classes in physics and neuroscience at the universities of Waterloo, Guelph and Brock, and is looking forward to applying her teaching skills to her new position.

Peter Genzinger joined the library on August 7 as liaison librarian for Geography and Global Studies. Peter, who has worked most recently at Ryerson University, has a Masters in Geography from the University of Waterloo as well as a Masters in Library and Information Science from the University of Western Ontario. Among other duties, Peter will be responsible for setting up a geospatial and data centre in the library.

Deborah Wills was appointed as head of the Reference Department on August 1 for a five-year term.  Deborah has worked in Reference and as a liaison librarian since 1994 and holds a Masters in English.

Gohar Ashoughian, Manager, Library Services, Learning Commons and Information Technology, University of Guelph-Humber has accepted a position as Associate University Librarian for Collection Services and Assessment at the University of Regina. Gohar leaves the University of Guelph Humber on September 7, 2007.

Prior to joining Guelph-Humber, Gohar was the founding Managing Director, Information Resources and Digital Library, Technical University of British Columbia - TechBC (now merged with Simon Fraser University in British Columbia). Gohar also worked as the Electronic Resources Specialist at the College Bibliocentre, with a responsibility to negotiate, license and acquire electronic resources for 25 Ontario Colleges of Applied Arts and Technology. Gohar holds MLIS and CLIS degrees from Louisiana State University.

Adam Lauder was appointed Digital Imaging Librarian at Leddy Library. This is Adam’s second year administering visual resources at the University of Windsor. Adam has been collaborating with colleagues at the University of Toronto Libraries, the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design and the Ontario College of Art and Design to develop the shared Fine Art Digital Imaging System (FADIS) into an interdisciplinary, consortial database of audio-visual materials in a variety of digital formats. Adam has been active in the area of copyright policy development, as well as in the organization of an interim steering committee for the pending Canadian Chapter of the Visual Resources Association, which will be the first professional organization for visual resources librarians in Canada. He holds a Master of Information Studies from the University of Toronto, and an Honours Bachelor of Arts from the University of Toronto (with High Distinction). In partial fulfillment of the requirements of his MISt, Adam completed a Master’s thesis on the rhetorical construction of subjectivity in the marketing theories of Canadian artist and advertising executive Bertram Brooker.

Danielle Winn was appointed Information Literacy Librarian at the University of Windsor’s Leddy Library. Danielle completed her Master of Library and Information Science degree at the University of Western Ontario earlier this year, and also has a Master of Arts in Adult Education from Central Michigan University; a Bachelor of Education from Brock University; and a Bachelor of Arts from Brock University. Danielle will be responsible for continuing to develop the University’s Information Literacy Programme.

Shuzhen Zhao joined the staff of Leddy as the Bibliographic Services Librarian. She has a Master of Library and Information Science from the University of Western Ontario and Peking University, Beijing China. She almost completed her Master of Education from Brandon University. Before coming to Windsor, Shuzhen worked as a cataloguer for Coutts Library Services in 2003 and was the Technical Services Department Supervisor and Cataloguing Librarian at Brandon University Library in Manitoba. She has served for 10 years as the Head of the Technical Services Department at a Chinese academic library and has worked in the United States as an exchange librarian. With extensive international experience in cataloguing and reference departments in Canada, the United States and China, Shuzhen is able to integrate best practices from working in different institutions into her current work environment.

Carol Perry was recently appointed Academic Liaison Librarian for Political Science and Government Publications at the University of Guelph. Carol was a Library Associate at the University of Guelph for 15 years before returning to school for her MLIS. Carol completed her final course at the University of Western Ontario in August 2007. Carol’s long standing involvement in data archiving has lead to a major study on the subject of archiving of publicly funded research data. She presented her work at CLA this year and is soon to be published in Government Information Quarterly. Her study was profiled in University Affairs. Carol holds a B.A. from the University of Guelph, a B.Ed. from Queens, and she is an accomplished sculptor and draftsperson.

Robin Sakowski was recently appointed Academic Liaison Librarian at the University of Guelph. Robin received her MLIS from UWO and also holds a B.A. and M.A. in English from the University of Saskatchewan. Robin’s previous position was at the Augustana Faculty Library of the University of Alberta in Camrose, Alberta. She has researched Icelandic sagas and Buffy the Vampire Slayer extensively.
