OCULA is accepting applications for a new volunteer position. The Deputy Editor assists the Editor-in-Chief, who is  responsible for all OCULA Online Publications, including, but not limited to, the online newsletter, website, and blog.

Mission:

OCULA Online Publications serve as a forum to discuss issues, share news of activities, projects, and people; and exchange ideas of concern and interest to the university and college libraries sector in Ontario.

Position Details:

• The Deputy Editor (DE) will assist the Editor-in-Chief in the content development and design of the all OCULA Online Publications.
• They will serve as an ex-officio member of OCULA Council for a 6-year term (3 years as Deputy Editor, 3 years as Editor-in-Chief).
• They will attend OCULA Council meetings, either in person at the OLA office in downtown Toronto or by teleconference. Meetings take place five times per year, including the AGM at Super Conference.
• The workload of this position will vary according to the publication schedule but will be approximately 12 hours per month.

Brock University Library seeks a dynamic and service-oriented librarian to bring vision and creativity to a new department of Liaison Services. The successful candidate will have an exciting opportunity to build on existing liaison activities and develop a new liaison program that will strengthen the integration of the Library into the teaching, learning and research activities of the University.  The launch of the expanded liaison program coincides with the University’s strategic commitment to enhanced research activity and expanded graduate programs.

 The Head, Liaison Services will provide leadership to a department of 10 liaison librarians with communication and liaison responsibilities for assigned academic departments and programs. The librarians in this unit provide extensive undergraduate and graduate instruction, offer in-depth research consultation by appointment and referral, provide general reference service, and participate in collection development. The Head, Liaison Services will work closely with librarians with liaison responsibilities in other units and will collaborate with colleagues to facilitate and support the development of a team-based structure for liaison activities. S/he will foster open communication among the Library’s departments, encourage a focus on the big picture, and advance the Library’s strategic goals.

 In addition to serving as department head, the Head, Liaison Services will also perform liaison duties in assigned subject areas, and will participate in the provision of reference service, including the evening and weekend rotation. The incumbent will also be engaged in the Library’s planning and decision-making processes, and will pursue appropriate professional, scholarly and service activities.  Qualifications

An ALA-accredited MLS or its equivalent is required; an advanced degree in an academic discipline is highly desirable. A minimum of five years of relevant public service and supervisory experience in an academic library is required. The successful candidate must demonstrate outstanding leadership, communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to encourage innovation and manage change in a positive way; exhibit flexibility; work independently and as a team member; balance multiple tasks and competing priorities; and possess a knowledge of current trends and practices related to higher education and academic libraries, including information literacy, collection management and development, assessment, and scholarly communication.

Position Description

The University of Guelph Library is recruiting for an innovative professional Librarian to provide Liaison services in a full-time, tenure-track position. The candidate will be adaptable in a variety of professional contexts and able to assume responsibility for a variety of roles or special projects relating to liaison with academic programs. Such activities with academic departments might include the development and promotion of programs to promote scholarly communication and faculty outreach, collection development and information resource management, information literacy and curriculum support, and the development and provision of services to support teaching, research, and learning in the academic environment.

McLaughlin Library and the Ontario Veterinary College (OVC) Learning Commons are located on the main University of Guelph campus, approximately one hour west of Toronto. The Library is affiliated with the University of Guelph-Humber Library and three regional campus libraries: Collège d’Alfred, Kemptville College and Ridgetown College. An innovative partnership with the University of Waterloo and Wilfrid Laurier University — the Tri-University Group of Libraries — provides access to a total of 7 million volumes including our own collection of 2.5 million. The Library serves the learning, teaching, and research needs of the undergraduates, graduates, faculty and researchers of the University of Guelph. Qualifications and Salary

Required qualifications include an ALA accredited Master’s degree in Library and Information Science. A degree in a subject discipline in the Humanities or Social Sciences is strongly preferred. Qualifications for this job include: strong oral and written communications skills; strong organizational skills; creative thinking and problem-solving abilities; strong interpersonal skills; a commitment to working in a collaborative team environment; the ability to multi-task a variety of responsibilities and projects and to be flexible and adaptable in a variety of professional situations. In addition, experience or knowledge of the research process in an academic environment would prove valuable in working with faculty and students. This is an academic appointment and the successful candidate will be expected to participate in appropriate professional and scholarly activities.

This entry-level position will be filled as a tenure-track appointment within the University of Guelph Faculty Association at the Assistant Librarian level. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience; a comprehensive benefits package is provided. Currently the Librarians at the University of Guelph participate in a plan that features incremental annual salary increases linked to a formal peer-review performance appraisal process.
