The purpose of the OCULA Award is to recognize an individual member of the library profession in Ontario who has made an outstanding contribution to academic or research librarianship and library development.

Candidates are expected to have:

• demonstrated notable service to the academic community through contributions to professional organizations, publications and/or research
• served as models for their profession and as examples of dedication, and to have demonstrated consistently high service standards and innovative approaches to issues
• participated actively in work to achieve the goals of their employing library and its institution.

The recipient of the OCULA Award is expected to be or to have been a member of the Ontario Library Association.

About the award:

Awarded annually to a graduating library school student or a new professional in the academic library field in Ontario (employed for two years or less).

Applicants are asked to submit a proposal for an OCULA conference session for the OLA Super Conference. The session topic should be of interest for new academic librarians.

The winner will receive:

- a years’ membership in OCULA
- full conference registration for the OLA Super Conference in 2008.
- 3 nights’ accommodation for the conference (to be arranged by OCULA and OLA)
- travel costs by air, train or car, to a limit of $250 Canadian (to be arranged by OCULA and OLA)
- be featured in an article about the award in InsideOCULA

Nominations are invited from any group or individual within the university community. Since 1973, award recipients have been selected annually by an independent OCUFA committee that consists of faculty members, librarians and student representatives.
